We spent two days at the Oil Council Paris event last week. http://www.oilcouncil.com/event/africa Was surely a good quality event with a good mix of finance guys and operational fellows in the upstream space.
East Africa is definitely hot still with Statoils Mozambique gas discoveries, Anadarko’s and the phenomenal rise of Cove and Ophir. As a result the second tier oil countries are getting more attention. Kenya and Somalia are case points.
For us is Nigeria still the number one attractive jurisdiction. Less risk. Plenty of discovered barrels and top quality crude. This sentiment is shared with many of our peers, however it seems as Africa oil is overall now moving away from the starting pit.
Will the next decade be Africa’s? We think so.
